Wonderful post. I agree with you completely. As humans, it is completely natural for us to experience both happiness and suffering. If we simply accept that suffering is inevitable we can more easily face the problems it brings and be free from them. I also agree with the Dalai Lama's views about genuine compassion, "...genuine compassion is based on the rationale that all human beings have an innate desire to be happy and overcome suffering, just like myself....On the basis of the recognition of this equality and commonality, you develop a sense of affinity and closeness with others." (From, "The Art of Happiness") A genuine compassion for others is the key to connecting with others, to relieve suffering, and to maintain true inner peace and happiness. I am just beginning to uncover the teachings of the Dalai Lama, and thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughts in this post. Thank you.

Hi Dennis, really great post and so powerful. Belly breathing and gut meditations really can have a profound affect on our decision making and help us communicate with the powerful brain in our gut. What you have shared is so simple, yet so useful. In our research over the last 2 years we've also found that you can connect in a similar way to the heart brain and tap into the messages and intuitions from the heart intelligence. And when all three brains (head, heart and gut) become aligned then generative wisdom emerges. We've just written about the research and modeling work behind this in our new book 'mBraining', you may want to check it out as it backs up your great work.

best wishes, Grant and Marvin

There are many times an individual who experiences turmoil and pain in his life looks for SOMETHING that makes them FEEL BETTER.Stumbles and gropes for a support and in all of this when one does find IT,the release of those pent up emotions which according to social norms and our conscience are incorrect ,leads them to a pathway of lightness. Why,coz due to this 'teacher'one gets the COURAGE to face the deception of self illusion that one was living in .Facing the REALITY is a tough call. When one does it the individual is motivated and knows what is it that one is striving for, looking for,as the most difficult bridge has been crossed by him. Then it is just matter of time that all the feelings get sorted out,of course, the path is tumultuous and that is where the actual journey begins.

Of course, but a good teacher leads you to the work that needs to happen which the ego conceals. You must do the work. The teacher cannot do it for you, but without a teacher you're lost because the ego veils the truth. A good teacher is vital to liberation from the ego's grasp. It cannot happen otherwise and to think that it can is pure delusion.

Bruce...something in what you said sparked a memory of a moment or two from last week when I was experiencing some difficult physical sensations. Must be my age (hot flashes), but I have this kind of heat that arises and then a constriction in my abdomin/chest. Usually I'm trying to get away from this but instead I rode the energy. I'm not sure I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, but taking the ride was better than my usual resistance. Anyway, I can just really relate to everything you're saying. May you be blessed with the happiness of not being on the treadmill.
